For twelve years, Kapono Randall called a small group of islands in the pacific ocean his own. A tropical paradise which was home to much of the boy's culture and everything he'd known since the day he was born was gone, and a new tropical adventure was about to take place. While Kapono was running around the beaches with his friends and sisters, the boy's parents were planning the family's future. To continue the tradition of running plus, five star hotels. They already had two in the family that were set in the islands, but the one Kapono's grandfather had just bought would be the thing that uprooted the Randall family from their little island paradise. From the warm tropical pacific to a salty Atlantic set of islands off the coast of Florida. Key West was their new home, and Kapono wasn't exactly thrilled about the transition. While Kaia and the rest of the family were looking forward to their new location, and what it might have in store of them, Kapono was missing Hawaii. It took some time for him to get use to the move, but it wasn't long before he was calling Key West his new home.
Anyone who'd known Kapono from an early age knew that there was something special about the boy. He was different from the other kids around; from his likes, and dislikes, to his mannerisms. It was Kapono's mother who first questioned her son's sexuality during a late night discussion with her Husband. The two quickly came to the conclusion that the chances of Kapono being gay was more than likely. It was decided that neither of them would ask their son about the pink elephant in the room, that instead they would wait for him to come out in his own time. However, there was no coming out for Kapono. It was just who he was, and never did he think there was anything wrong with the way he was. There were no questions, or issues, it was just how things were. Instead of struggling with his sexuality like many other kids his age do, Kapono had grasped the differences that were given to him, and quickly took ownership of them. Kaia had always known, the two had talked about boys, and who was cute and who wasn't since they could remember. But it was finalized for his mother one day after school in the sixth grade when he informed her that the boy he'd been chasing after at school had a girlfriend. Kapono was disappointed to say the least, but it didn't stop him from grabbing the boy and kissing him after school. He was always the type to want to go out with a bang.
As Kapono grew, and High School came around, he had already established himself as a staple among the youth in Key West. The Hawaiian boy had made a name for himself, and had developed a bit of following. Being out a young age wasn't something you found often, thus resulting in every girl wanting a gay best friend, and every straight guy wanting to be friends with the guy every girl seemed to love. He dressed well, gave good advice, threw amazing parties and came out with some of the best one lines around. Sports was never something Kapono did well, at least that's what he said. The fact of the matter was he never put any effort into them. His idea was sports was shopping, and lounging by the pool. However, in middle school he joined the swim when his father told him he had to be involved in something athletic. Swim was an obvious choice, there were no other options. He'd been doing it since he was young, was good at it, and got to be in a locker room with wet, naked boys? Simple enough. It was quickly realized what an asset Kapono was to the team, and when the season was over, Kapono admitted that joining the team was one of the best things he'd done. Now, every season of swim that comes around, Kapono is one of the first in line to sign up for try outs.
Now at seventeen, and heading into his Senior year of High School, Kapono is doing what most kid's his age are doing. Dreading the future. While he has big dreams of never leaving the life of luxury that he's become accustom too, he isn't quite sure how he's going to remain so plush. School isn't a major priority for the boy, his books are slightly dusty, his homework usually turned in late, and is nowhere near an A student, but Kapono is doing just enough to wear that unfashionable cap and gown. Basically, a majority of his time is given to the following things; friends, shopping, parties, the beach, and boys. There's no doubt that this Hawaiian born boy his high maintenance, but behind the designer cover, well manicured, sun kissed boy is young philanthropist. Ready and willing to help others, but his inner circle does come first. No one said he was fully matured. While people still tend to not given him the credit he's due, it's no surprise to anyone that this adorably clueless boy has a heart of gold.
